Ever since its establishment as a Language Research Center in 1963, the Language Education Center has been striving to improve the language skills of both students and the staff at CNU.

In particular, the Korean language program, which started in 2006, is doing everything it can to create an effective and pleasant study environment for international students (including Koreans who were raised overseas) to learn the culture and the language of Korea. Every semester we have more than 300 foreign students from approximately 50 countries enroll to learn Korean and Korean culture.

The Language Education Center plays an important role in internationalizing Chonnam National University, as well as the Gwangju region. In particular, starting in 2013, the National Institute for International Education has invited foreign Graduate scholarship students, who have been selected by the government, to receive Korean language training at our language center.

Futhermore, starting in 2015, we have been commissioned by the US State Department to run the prestigious CLS(Critical Language Scholarship) Program. The Language Education Center has also been designated as an institute to administer the TOPIK (Test of Proficiency in Korean) Test by the National Institute for International Education.

Our language institute, which is located on the beautiful, verdant Chonnam National University campus, will serve as a gateway to a strong future.
