Academic Regulations

Grading

Students are graded based on test results (midterm/final), quizzes, attendance rate, and participation in class.

Attendance

  • Classes start on time, and tardiness and absences are strictly monitored.
  • If you come late after 30 minutes it would be considered as an absence.
  • In case of excused absences you should bring the evidence document (hospital treatment records, flight ticket, passenger ticket, interview confirmation, etc.) to the Korean language teacher or your supervisor teacher and after confirmation of your document your absence will be considered as an attendace.

Failing the class and re-enrolling in the class

  • Certificates and report cards are given to students who have high attendance rates (higher than 80%) and have grades higher than 60 points. (Students who do not meet these criteria cannot receive certificates or report cards.)
  • Students with an attendance record of less than 50% will be expelled.

Placement test

  • New students will take a placement test, which is composed of a written test and an oral interview. The level is determined by a staff member and an instructor. (Students who have never taken any Korean classes will be placed in level 1 without taking the test.)
  • Students with good grades may ask for a level test and skip to a higher level. The test is composed of a written test and an oral interview. The results will be discussed by a staff member and the instructor.
  • Students who have learned the Korean language at a different organization will be placed in the appropriate class based on the results of a level test and certificate from the other language course.
(When applicable, submit a certificate of language proficiency and a report card from your previous school.)

Counseling

The Center offers counseling regarding student’s careers or life on campus.
(Place: Korean Language Room at Language Education Center)

Other reminders

  • When a student is absent for more than 10 days without notifying the school in advance, the Center may report this information to the Immigration Office and cancel the enrollment.
  • The Center may cancel a student’s enrollment when the student is considered to have a negative influence on the class/study atmosphere at the LEC.
